a new forest at the size of Italy in 15 years...
Greening the earth ! China's forestry and grassland authority set their afforestation targets this week for the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) fully in line with the strategic 15-year ecological protection plan (2021-2035) earlier published this year to come to a 26% forest coverage of the total Chinese land, among many other ecological targets such as nature reserves and biodiversity.

Currently the forest coverage is about 23% which implies that new forests will be planted at a total size of roughly 280,000 km2, almost the size of Italy's territory, during the next 15 years.

If you think this is new, you are mistaken. In previous years, new forests have been planted each year an expansion roughly the size of Ireland.

Or have you ever heard about the Three-North Shelter Forest Program, also known as 'the Green Wall of China' which started in 1978 fighting the desertification and 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝟲𝟲 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘀, 𝘀𝗵𝗿𝘂𝗯𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗯𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝟰 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀.
