China's snack market is getting 'meatier'...

The snack market in China has transformed significantly in recent years. Although traditional snacks such as nuts and dried fruits remain very popular, the marketing has changed in terms of image and consumer targets with new designs in packaging and style as well penetration in social media sales and marketing channels.

Consumers have changed snack preferences and demands in recent years, putting health, nutrition or functionality (energy, focus) as priorities and snacks increasingly function as meal replacements. This has resulted in a larger share of meat, nut, fruit and tofu (or plant-based meats) snacks to the expense of baked good and sugar snacks. Quality over price plays an increasing role as well in the snack market development.

The Chinese snack market is expected to maintain a compound growth rate of over 6%, and was around 2.7 trillion yuan in 2020, and by 2025 is expected to exceed 4 trillion yuan.
