Highlights Two Sessions | Lianghui, 两会

Highlights on and around the Two Sessions, China’s most important annual political gathering these days in Beijing laying out the agenda :

a) No GDP target for 2020

b) Maintain economic stability through tax measures and subsidies in key areas such as employment, supply chain, people's livelihood and food security.

c) Total 10 trillion RMB (USD 1.4 trillion) investment for AI and 5G developments for the next 5 years. 10,000 5G base stations built per week this year and 150 million 5G users by the end of 2020.

d) Annual budget RMB 60 billion for environment (appr. 10% of total government investment budget 2020).

e) Continuous efforts and achievement for total rural poverty elimination.

f) New National Security law for Hong Kong.

And last but not least….

Laying out a “New development pattern” consisting of “both the great domestic economic circle and the international economic circle”

The two sessions (Lianghui, 两会) are the annual plenary sessions of the National People's Congress (NPC) and Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Usually held in March but this year delayed until end of May due to COVID19.
