"If not for the bone-deep bite of winter, where would we get the heady scent of plums?”

Huawei’s new year message to their employees last week by rotating Huawei chairman Eric Xu was all about “Survival in 2020”.
Despite US sanctions, Huawei reports new record revenues for 2019 but warns for a very tough survival year ahead in 2020 as the US administration is in the midst of a strategic and long term campaign against their company.
A strong, resilient and poetic message with clear language, taking responsibility and pride :
" 'Pit-diggers' will be separated from 'Tree-growers' in the organization; mediocrity, short term gains and lack of responsibility will be removed from the organization."
" The US sanctions should be used to motivate ourselves and build some muscle. "
" It's our firm belief that humankind will enter an intelligent world in the next three decades. Digital technology is reshaping the world around us, and we want to make sure that this future is inclusive – that everyone can benefit from the changes digital technology brings."
Concluding with :
" We are the bamboo stalk that stands tall and proud against wind from all directions, whether north or south, east or west. "
