"Mountain house in the mist"... new retreats in China's countryside

A library and social gathering house in the serene mountains of Zhejiang province, built in 2018. Designed by ShuLin Architects 尌林建筑事务所 from Hangzhou.

The book house is located in a village amidst the ancient mountain forest in Wuyi County (武义县), about 350km south-west from Shanghai (or 200km from Hangzhou) in central Zhejiang province.

The design aims to create a serene and social reading space, attracting more young people to return to the mountains from urban areas. The open spaces provide comfort both for the younger and elder generations.

Wuyi county is an increasingly popular tourist destination for its green foggy mountains, tea fields and idyllic villages, especially for people from Hangzhou and Shanghai to spend their weekends or holidays.
