Gogoro has announced this month a major milestone, reaching half a million subscribers for its electric motorcycle battery swap network. And this just in Gogoro's home base #Taiwan with a population of less than 24 million people.

The company currently sees about 340,000 motorcycle battery swaps each day at more than 2,200 stations (end of 2021) and has recorded over 325 million battery swaps since the company began operations in 2015. In comparison there are about 2,400 petrol stations in Taiwan. Riding your motorcycle in most urban areas, a #Gogoro swap station is usually less than 1km away.

Gogoro is now preparing motorcycle battery swapping networks in mainland China as well as going to other countries such as India and Israel. Another battery swapping champion but then for EV cars is NIO currently exploiting more than 900 battery swap stations in China for their electric vehicles with more than 8 million swaps since the first station in Beijing in 2018 (with more than 3 million of these swaps done this year up till now). In January this year, the first NIO swapping station was launched in Norway and earlier this month NIO announced a new plant in Hungary for the production of swap stations for the EU market.

Headquartered in Shanghai since its founding in 2014, NIO's ambition is to install 4,000 stations by 2025 (of which about 1,000 outside China) with 90% of its users living less than 3km away of a battery swap station (compared to 29% today). The 2nd generation NIO Power Swap Station 2.0, introduced in April 2021, is capable of completing up to 312 battery swaps per 24 hours, an average of 4-5 minutes for the swap including driving in and out. A complete driverless process, automatically operated in harmony by station and electric vehicle.

Amazing green-tech developments from owning batteries to battery swapping subscriptions : - Reducing upfront purchase costs for #ev motorcycles and cars without batteries.

- Scaled opportunities of connecting green energy sources to battery charging at swapping stations and networks more efficiently.

- Environmental management on battery collection and distribution, maintenance or recycling. Green-tech is not only about the actual core technologies itself but equally or more important how it can be implemented in societies to benefit from #greenenergy most efficiently. Adapting, innovating and optimizing the constant evolving process from green energy sources to final uses is key to the benefit of any particular #greentech.. and our #environment Dynamic developments in sustainable, shared greentech mobility.
