Thumbs up for 10.78 million 'Gaokao 2021' students !
𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗯𝘀 𝘂𝗽 for 10.78 million students all over China taking the 𝗚𝗮𝗼𝗸𝗮𝗼 national college entrance exam today and tomorrow !
The Gaokao (高考; gāokǎo) is a standardized test, a prerequisite for entrance into almost all higher education institutions at the undergraduate level. It is usually taken by students in their last year of senior high school, though there has been no age restriction since 2001.
The exams last about nine hours over a period of two days, today and tomorrow (7-8 June).
As China's economy has grown rapidly in recent years, along with more opportunities and choices to develop careers and lives, the Gaokao is not as decisive for one’s destiny as it used to be in the past. Students and parents tend to be more rational toward the exam but it is remains a milestone and crucial step for the lives of millions to access higher education resources.
Students from rural areas and minority ethnic backgrounds will continue to enjoy favorable policies when they apply for major universities this year with special enrollment plans.
Nearly 900 students in northwestern Qinghai province will take their college entrance exams in tents this year after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake shook the area on May 22.
